Broadcasting Division

Functions

The functions of The Broadcasting Division are:
* To serve as the executive arm of the Broadcasting Authority (BA), an independent statutory body established to regulate licensed television and radio broadcasts in Hong Kong. Please browse the BA homepage (http://www.hkba.hk) for details of the functions and responsibilities;
* To provide secretariat service to the BA, its Complaints Committee and Codes of Practice Committee. The Commissioner for Television and Entertainment Licensing (CTEL) is the Principal Executive Officer of the BA, and the Assistant Commissioner (Broadcasting), the Secretary for the BA;
* To assist the BA in making recommendations to the Chief Executive in Council on applications for domestic free television programme service licences, domestic pay television programme service licences and sound broadcasting licences, and conducting reviews and renewal of these licences;
* To assist the BA in processing applications for non-domestic television programme service licences and other licensable television programme service licences, and conducting reviews and renewals of such licences, and
* To secure proper standards of television and radio broadcasting transmitted in and from Hong Kong.

Organization
The Broadcasting Division is headed by the Assistant Commissioner (Broadcasting) and has three sub-divisions:
* Content Regulation Sub-Division;
* Licence Administration Sub-Division; and
* Competition & Support Sub-Division.
